The Caribbean: the ultimate honeymoon destination
There are destinations that naturally lend themselves to a honeymoon. The Caribbean has been one of them for a long time: the golden evening light, warm and clear waters, tropical vegetation, sunsets over the Caribbean Sea. Everything comes together to create an atmosphere that belongs to just the two of you.
But a good Caribbean honeymoon doesn't happen by itself. The choice of island, accommodation and experiences makes all the difference between an ordinary trip and a memory that lasts. Here's what I build for my couples, after years of specialising in these destinations.
Which island to choose for your honeymoon?
The question comes up every time. The answer depends on what you're looking for.
Guadeloupe is perfect for couples who want a complete destination: white sandy beaches, tropical forest, Creole gastronomy, nightlife in Gosier. In two weeks you can see everything. It's also the destination with the widest range of romantic accommodation.
The Grenadines are the answer for those who dream of a catamaran sailing trip. Total intimacy, breathtakingly beautiful scenery, and the Tobago Cays are among the world's best snorkelling spots.
Martinique will seduce food and culture lovers. The island has an exceptional culinary scene, magnificent rum routes and wild northern beaches that are hard to match.
Dominica is the nature island par excellence, far from mass tourism. Waterfalls, rivers, black sand beaches and stunning diving spots. Here, life moves at its own pace, between calm and Caribbean sweetness like nowhere else.
Mégane's tip
Avoid trying to combine too many islands in a short time. A well-organised two-island itinerary is better than three islands rushed through. The quality of time spent in each place is what creates real memories.
The most romantic stays
International hotel chains exist in the Caribbean, but that's not where you'll find your best memory. What I consistently recommend to my couples:
- Private villas with infinity pools, often less expensive than a hotel suite and infinitely more intimate
- Eco-lodges perched in the vegetation, like Jungle Bay in Dominica: spacious rooms with sea views and luxury hotel service
- Small boutique hotels run by passionate owners, like Habitation du Comté in Guadeloupe
- For sailing lovers: a night at anchor on a sailboat, far from any coast, under the stars
- A private catamaran evening, an experience I love proposing to my couples
Sunset from a private catamaran, somewhere between the Caribbean islands.
Experiences to share as a couple
What makes a honeymoon special is often a moment you wouldn't have found on your own. Here are the ones I create most often for my clients:
- A dinner with your feet in the water, with a local chef cooking fish caught that morning
- A private sunset kayak excursion through a bioluminescent lagoon
- A couples massage in the middle of nature with the sound of a river in the background
- A private catamaran day with snorkelling, lunch on board and sundowners at sunset
- A private tour of an agricultural rum distillery, with a guided tasting and personalised cocktail
Snorkelling in the crystal-clear Caribbean waters, an experience to share.
When to go: seasons and weather
High season in the Caribbean runs from December to April. This is the ideal period: mild temperatures, little rain, calm sea. It's also the most in-demand, so the most expensive, and when the best addresses are fully booked months in advance.
Low season (May to November) offers more attractive prices and less crowded beaches. Rain is more frequent but generally short. July and August remain beautiful in the Caribbean, as long as you avoid the hurricane season which peaks in September and October.
For a June or September wedding, I advise starting to plan the honeymoon at least 8 to 10 months in advance. The best villas and exceptional service providers book early, especially in high season.
